At Sunday school today the boys and girls learned about the story of Fanny Crosby: the girl who couldn't see but taught the world to sing!
Fanny, blind from 6 weeks old went on to be a prolific hymn writer, writing over 9000 hymns in her life time. She overcame her physical difficulties to pen some of the world's most well known hymns which are still in use today.
Fanny loved to aid people in singing praise unto God for all He has done, not least in sending Jesus to save us from our sins through faith in Him.
The final verse from her well known hymn 'To God be the glory' is particularly poignant:
'Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.'
How wonderful to think that when Fanny passed into glory, the first thing her new eyes would have seen would be the wonders of Heaven and the face of her Saviour.
