This morning we gathered in for our annual harvest family service.
The minister asked some of the children to hold up 7 letters and the congregation had a go at making some words from the letters. There were around a dozen words suggested including 'harvest', 'starve' and 'share'. Phil spoke to the children about the harvest and how its meaning is two fold; a physical harvest of fruit / vegetables and all of the good things God gives to us but also the spiritual harvest. We thought about how we should be thankful to God for the plenty that we have by way of daily provisions but how we should also be thankful for the provision of Jesus who came so that we, by faith, might be part of God's family. We went on to think about how there are people less fortunate than ourselves - people who are sadly 'starving' both physically as they don't have enough food and spiritually as they don't know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour or even have a Bible to read about Him. The children then considered how we should share with those in need through supporting organisations like Paul's Parcels but they also thought about the importance of sharing the Gospel with those who are yet to hear it.
The boys and girls then made up 3 goodiebags each. Within the bags were an orange, some sweets, a pack of seeds and a harvest poem outlining the importance of being part of God's harvest by trusting in Jesus. They are to keep one bag and shre the other 2 to friends or family.
The adults thought briefly about the compassion of Jesus towards the crowds before Him and the importance of ensuring we are born again and part of the 'harvest' of God.
We are pleased to be able to donate the vast majority of harvest donations to our friends at Paul's Parcels who provide invaluable services to our community.
